MAYWEATHER CONTROVERSIAL KO OVER ORTIZ

LAS VEGAS -- Protect yourself at all times. It is the oldest adage in boxing. Victor Ortiz did not do that, and he paid the ultimate price.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., who had dominated the first three rounds, looked brilliant in his first fight in 16 months, but that brilliance may be overshadowed by the way he scored a stunning knockout with one second left in the fourth round Saturday night to win a welterweight title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Some at ringside called it a sucker punch from Mayweather. Others blamed referee Joe Cortez, who did not have his eye on the action. Whatever you want to call it, Mayweather drilled Ortiz in a triumphant return to the ring.

Ortiz was getting tagged repeatedly by Mayweather right hands for most of the fight. Mayweather was making it look oh-so easy, as he usually has during a career that obviously will send him to the Hall of Fame.

But in the fourth round, Ortiz found some success. He landed a couple of hard shots that had Mayweather shaking his head, as if say he did not feel them. But then Ortiz drove Mayweather into the corner post. Instead of following up with punches, Ortiz drove his head toward Mayweather's face as if to intentionally head-butt him. Cortez immediately called time and deducted a point from Ortiz.

Then the fight turned somewhat surreal.

As Cortez was calling time, Ortiz -- seemingly acknowledging his wrongdoing -- hugged Mayweather in the corner and even appeared to kiss him.

Then Cortez waived them back together and they touched gloves. But with Cortez looking away from the fighters, Mayweather unloaded a left hook and a flush right hand to Ortiz's face.

Ortiz dropped and was unable to beat Cortez's count as the crowd of 14,687 -- clearly an Ortiz house -- went absolutely wild.

"In the ring, you have to protect yourself at all times," Mayweather said. "After it happened, we touched gloves and we were back to fighting and then I threw the left hook and right hand after the break. You just gotta protect yourself at all times."

During the lead-up to the fight, Ortiz's trainer, Danny Garcia, had accused Mayweather of using his elbows and being a dirty fighter.

But it was Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KOs) who turned dirty with the head-butt, not Mayweather, who was well within his rights to throw the punches that ended the fight.

"Time was in," Cortez said. "The fighter needed to keep his guard up. Mayweather did nothing illegal."

Mayweather (42-0, 26 KOs) did not have a lot of time to celebrate and was soon questioned about what had happened by HBO's Larry Merchant during an in-ring interview.

"He did something dirty," Mayweather said. "His corner said I was dirty, and he did something dirty. All along, his corner was saying I was dirty, but I won the fight."

At that point Mayweather's interview with Merchant degenerated. Mayweather began to get into Merchant's face, saying, "I'm going to do you a favor and let you talk to Victor Ortiz, because you've never given me a fair shake. You ain't s---."

"If I was 50 years younger, I would kick your ass," Merchant, 80, said back to him before turning to Ortiz.

HBO will replay the fight next Saturday night at 9:45 ET/PT.

Mayweather, who made a minimum $25 million, walked away from Merchant, clearly in no mood to dissect what had happened or to address his overwhelming performance, one which he deserves credit for as he took apart a man 10 years younger than him (Ortiz is 24) while coming off the long, self-imposed layoff.

He also faced a significant weight disadvantage.

Ortiz, who was making the first defense of the belt he won via decision in a fight of the year candidate with Andre Berto in April, stepped onto the unofficial HBO fight-night scale at 164 pounds. Mayweather was 150 pounds.

It made no difference, as Mayweather claimed his seventh world title covering five weight classes.

Ortiz was, of course, not happy with what had happened, even if he has only himself to blame for the head-butt that led to the knockout.

"I took a break by the referee and I obeyed exactly what I was told," said Ortiz, who made $2 million. "And then, boom, he blindsided me. I'm not a dirty fighter and I apologize for the head-butt. I came to entertain the fans and I think they were entertained. There was a miscommunication with the referee, and neither he nor I are perfect."

This is true. But, in the ring anyway, Mayweather sure is.

Sarah Palin hunted more than moose in Alaska: A new book claims she and hoops star Glen Rice had a bizarre NRA-meets-NBA one-night stand.

The improbable hookup, based on anonymous sources, is recounted in the highly anticipated "The Rogue: Searching for The Real Sarah Palin," written by best-selling author Joe McGinniss.

The sure-to-be controversial tome says the one-time Alaskan governor was more than a Tea Partier - smoking pot with a college professor and snorting coke on a snowmobiling trip, the National Enquirer reported.

She also cheated on husband Todd, taking up with the First Dude's business partner in the mid-'90s, the Enquirer quoted the book as reporting.

But it was the unlikely jump ball between the 6-foot-8 Rice and the future vice presidential candidate that sparked an endless outpouring of cyberspace wisecracks.

"G Rice had great range but Alaska - that's deep," former Duke basketball star Bobby Hurley posted via Twitter.

NBA Hall-of-Famer Bill Walton took a shot at the notoriously offense-minded Rice.

"Sarah Palin had an intimate relationship with Glen Rice in the 80s," he tweeted. "Rice tried to resist but he was never one to stop anyone from scoring."

There was no response from the Palin camp to any of the tales from the McGinniss book, due on bookshelves next week.

Rice did not return calls for comment, although the Enquirer said Rice confirmed the romance to McGinniss.

A review of the book on the New York Times' website suggests the author egged Rice on with leading questions and never specifically says they had an encounter.

Sharpshooter Rice - who spent one season with the Knicks - was playing for Michigan in the annual "Great Alaska Shootout" while Palin was a sports reporter with Anchorage television station KTUU, the Enquirer said.

A friend described Palin as the aggressor, with the pal reporting "she hauled his ass down," the Enquirer said.

Their tryst reportedly occurred over Thanksgiving weekend 1987 in the dorm room of Palin's kid sister at the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

Less than a year later, Palin was pregnant by now-husband Todd and the couple eloped.

The book also repeated allegations - which Palin has denied - that she had a six-month affair with her husband's business partner in the mid-'90s.

The dalliance put a chill on the Palin marriage, with Todd complaining to friends about the loss of intimacy in their relationship, the Enquirer reported.

McGinniss' agent, David Larabell, declined to comment on the Enquirer excerpts.

"I haven't seen the National Enquirer article," he wrote in an email. "I don't know about this instance, but they often get these reports right."

McGinniss, the author of "Fatal Vision" and "The Selling of the President," rented the house next door to the Palins in Wasilla while researching the bombshell book.

The book also reports that Palin was once seen snorting cocaine off the top of a 55-gallon drum while snowmobiling with friends. She also smoked pot with a professor while at Mat-Su College, the book said.

On Wednesday, President Obama and Vice President Biden met with Sec. of Defense Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff to get what the White House called a “comprehensive view of the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the impact on our forces”.

The administration plans to decrease troop deployment in Iraq and focus on the fight against the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Gates wants to put Obama “in front of all the people that are involved in these decisions and all the people that are involved in committing the lives of men and women in our uniform so that the president can get all this advice in an unvarnished way,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

Wearing jeans, a black blazer and a white collared shirt, Burress did not appear to be favoring his right leg -- the one he accidentally shot at a Manhattan nightclub early Saturday morning.

Things have gone from bad to worse for the New York Football Giants. Contrary to initial reports which assumed Plaxico Burress was the only player at the Latin Quarter nightclub, many outlets are now reporting former Pro Bowl linebacker Antonio Pierce was not only present but also stashed Plaxico’s gun in a shady location currently being described as “somewhere in Jersey.”

Here are a list of other things currently found somewhere in Jersey: wiggers, guidos, abortion clinics, Giant Stadium, and Kevin Smith fans.

According to The New York Daily News, Pierce is wanted by police for questions, but he’s unavailable as the Giants are currently playing the hated Washington Redskins. At press time, the linebacker had one tackle.

Police have also revealed a third member of the Giants was present during the shooting, but this mysterious onlooker has not yet been named by anyone.

Musical all stars like Kanye West and Alicia Keys all touched down on the HOT 97 Summer Jam stage this year. The weather was perfect this year, with sunny and clear skies with temperatures reaching the lower 80s. Hundreds of concert goers arrived early to enjoy the HOT 97 Summer Jam Tail Gate party which featured performances by today's rising stars as well as several vendor booths giving away cool prizes. Celebrities, artists and athletes kicked with concert goers in the Platinum Players Lounge and VIP Parties, while Hip Hop's MVPs prepared for the big show.

Remy Ma Manages To Make Her Sentencing All About Her "facade"

Remy Ma—née Remy Smith—was sentenced to eight years in jail for a July shooting outside a New York nightclub yesterday, a sentence that resulted in Remy's fiancé Papoose (birth name: Shamele Mackie) swearing at court officers, overturning a nearby garbage can, and daring the guards to lock him up—hey, conjugal visits are out of the question for now, so why not. The sentencing was preceded by a weeping Remy telling the judge that her larger-than-life persona was merely a figment of the media's imagination, and that it was created by record executives for the purposes of moving product:

"Remy Ma is not even close to who I am," she said through tears. "I'm not a thug. I'm not a hardcore anything. I have feelings and emotions, and I'm a human being like anybody else. I'm Remy Smith."
Perhaps this means that her sniping about C.O.'s lower-than-her net worth was also part of her label's marketing plan. She also took time out to apologize, sort of, to her victim, who was in the courtroom but who didn't get a direct look from Remy:

"I apologize," she said, "and I'm sorry for not saving you. I feel so bad for all the physical and mental pain you went through, and go through. Myself, I have a lifetime scar on my face. So I know the pain you feel when I look in the mirror."
I'm surprised that she didn't add, "But if I got through it, so can you!" to her motivational speech, if only to seal the cluelessness of said statement.

According to Wikipedia.com, Predatory lending is defined as, “the practice of a lender deceptively convincing borrowers to agree to unfair and abusive loan terms, or systematically violating those terms in ways that make it difficult for the borrower to defend against.” In New York City alone, for the 2007-8 year, there we be over 10,000 foreclosures due to ‘predatory lending’ and the majority of these foreclosures will be made against some of the weakest and poorest members of our community, African-American seniors. Across America, states are investigating charges that banks targeted blacks and Latinos in this detestable scheme.

But there is another foreclosure going on in America today, one that we might not think of, but which is filling up our newspapers and magazines, the web and the television. You see, the Clintons have foreclosed on blacks.

In 1992 blacks took out a loan with Bill and Hillary Clinton. We gave them the keys to our home, America, with the agreement that they would help us make this a better place by showing us respect and insuring that people of color would get treated as people and not mere pawns on a political chessboard. To that end we remained loyal. In fact out of America blacks were probably the most loyal to the Clinton brand than any other group in this nation. When Bill Clinton said, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman”, we believed him; and when he finally admitted the truth, we were the first to take his side. When he left office, tagged like Hester in the Scarlet Letter, we took him into the heart of Harlem, welcoming him into our community, our restaurants, and our homes. We helped make his wife our Senator. We looked up to him. We admired him. We were loyal soldiers. continue

It’s a fine time to be an artist in Atlanta. Whether you’re a soul singer, conscious emcee, or a traditional trap music hustler, there’s a place for you here. Just in the month of April, the city has welcomed performances from acts as diverse as Masta Ace, Lina, and Estelle.

It’s fitting that BMI (Broadcast Music, Incorporated), the leading performing rights organization in the U.S., would host a unsigned artist’s showcase to shine light on the many fledging and undiscovered acts throughout the city.

17-year-old standout Teyana Taylor was the first of the three headline performers. The Harlem singer/emcee overcame the technical shortcomings of the venue to win over the crowd with b-girl attitude and succinct choreography.

With jeans hanging off her waist and a white cut off wifebeater, one couldn’t help but see images of a sensual Aaliyah swaying effortlessly through the “Are You That Somebody” video.

Despite the clear influence, Teyana is no follower. Her tomboy flair is evident on her first single “Google Me.” She eyed all of us among press row, as if daring us to proclaim she wasn’t the next big thing in urban music. With the talent and confidence she possesses, one would be hard pressed to disagree.

Next, songwriter Sean Garrett hit the stage. Nicknamed “The Pen” by Jay-Z due to his string of hit writing credits (Usher, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna), Garrett made the ladies swoon as he went hrough tracks off his upcoming album 2008: Turbo 919. To make sure everyone was familiar with his resume, Garrett performed interpolations of his biggest hits: Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied” and Usher’s “Yeah!” Not to leave the fellas out, Garrett enlisted two voluptuous dancers that keep the camera’s snapping throughout his set.

Despite the strong performances, all was not well with this event. There were long stretches on inactivity that hurt the crowd’s energy. The show began at 8pm, and by 1am the headliner (Lil Wayne) still had not reached the venue. DJs attempted to stall for time by playing ATL classics from Outkast, but that was only a fleeting antidote as tensions began to rise. Fans rushed the press pit in preparation for Wayne, which caused threats of violence between multiple female fans.

While initially amusing, these empty threats just added to the monotony as VIP, fans, and press were all mashed on top of each other. It would not be until close to 2am before the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive” made himself known.

When Wayne hit the stage, the crowd went crazy. The audience recited the lyrics for “Money On My Mind” and “You Ain’t Know” as the New Orleans MC ripped through each verse. The energy continued with renditions of “Hello Brooklyn” and “Dey Know (Remix).”

He’s in the same position Nas was before Illmatic, BIG before Ready for Die, and Canibus before his debut. The question becomes can he deliver a seminal album to validate his claims like Nas and BIG, or will he fall short as Canibus did? It’s no secret that Wayne does see himself in the vein of the two legends, as his album cover pays homage to Illmatic and Ready to Die. The talent is there, and like everyone else I’m anticipating how The Carter III turns out.

Overall, the BMI showcase was a success. The artists all performed exceptionally well. But next year let’s hope BMI pays better attention to time management and venue organization to ensure the best possible atmosphere for all.

“They got away with murder in there,” said Calvin B. Hunt, a man in the crowd, which continued to spill into two of the three westbound lanes of Queens Boulevard, slowing traffic to a crawl.
William Hargraves, 48, an electrician from Harlem brought his 12-year-old son, Kamau, to the courthouse this morning. He said this verdict parallels the outcome of previous police shootings of black men. “Connect the bullets,” he said. “How many times did they shoot Diallo? Forty-one times. They were acquitted. They got a pension.”
His son said: “I think it’s not right, because they shot him 50 times. They knew he was hurt, and they kept shooting him. He didn’t even have a gun.”

9:30 a.m. | A crowd of Sean Bell supporters outside the courthouse is surrounded by television cameras and reporters. Some are loudly and bitterly denouncing the verdict, while others watch. Lines of uniformed police officers are trying to keep the crowd contained to the sidewalk, but some have spilled into an eastbound lane of Queens Boulevard, all but stopping traffic. AllHipHop.com: What [platforms] have you played on, and what's your favorite?

Yung Berg: I still like the PS2, PS3 is cool but I still like the PS2. I don't even know why - it's gonna be my favorite system forever. I guess it's just a true Madden and NBA Live [fan]. That's what I learned on, so I just gotta stay with it.

AllHipHop.com: So you just like the controllers better on PS2?

Yung Berg: Yeah definitely. The controllers are way more user friendly, I don't need all that extra s**t.

AllHipHop.com: What game do you find yourself playing the most?

Yung Berg: Live, I'm a basketball fanatic.

AllHipHop.com: Do you play with one particular team all the time?

Yung Berg: I switch it up, I try and play with the underdogs. I even got the PSP for when I'm not even in front of a TV or something, I could just be on a flight playing it. So I switch it up, it should be the [Denver] Nuggets where I f**k with Carmelo [Anthony] and A.I. or the Bulls from Chicago.

AllHipHop.com: So do you challenge your friends? I assume when you're on the road you play quite a bit.

Yung Berg: Yeah definitely, we be playin' for money. A showdown [with a] $100 buy in.

AllHipHop.com: Do you lose often?

Yung Berg: Nah, I'm Prince [from the Chappelle's Show sketch].

AllHipHop.com: As far as other games, do you ever play any role playing games or anything [other than sports]?

Yung Berg: Not really. The only other games I'm really into are driving games like car games and things of that nature. I mean I'm old school too. I'm not afraid to say I still love Nintendo 64, like I'll play 007 [James Bond] all damn day with four of my homies and go hard on that.

AllHipHop.com: With the driving games, which one has been your favorite to play?

Yung Berg: I can't really say. I'm kinda torn on that. I gotta go look in my bag because I just bought a new game when I was in the last state, I just can't remember the name of it. But the O.G. driving game is always gonna be Need For Speed.

AllHipHop.com: Are you looking forward to Grand Theft Auto 4?

Yung Berg: Oh yeah, fa sho. I play Grand Theft as well. I'm into games like that because they have a story behind it and you could really feel like you're a part of the game.

AllHipHop.com: Have you been able to beat [Grand Theft Auto] San Andreas?

Yung Berg: Hell no. As soon as I start losing missions I just get on bulls**t and start killing people, causing police problems and seeing how many stars I could get and if I could run from the police all day.

AllHipHop.com: With Grand Theft Auto 4 they actually have multi-player action…

Yung Berg: That's gonna be hot. I can't wait for that.

AllHipHop.com: So you might have to get the PS3 I think. You're gonna have to upgrade.

Yung Berg: Yeah, I'm gonna have to upgrade, but I gotta wait until the new one comes out. Once the new one comes out and everybody's talking s**t about it and saying it's crazy I'll have to go get it.

AllHipHop.com: If you could being back any old school game and make it current, what would it be?
Yung Berg: Nintendo, the O.G. one where you had to blow in the cartridges to make it work.
AllHipHop.com: I'm sure you've gotten opportunities to put your music on soundtracks. What games do you feel your songs would fit best with?
Yung Berg: Every game, all you gamers come holla at me. My music doesn't stop, I got too much music.

In the mid nineties, P came out with guns blazing alongside Havoc. His persona was like a shank sharpened on the concrete and had the bars to match. Going past the new millennium it seemed Mobb Deep weren’t holding the same weight they previously did with their last couple of albums all getting lukewarm responses. Amongst footage of getting sucker punched and sitting in bing for another two and half years, Prodigy still pushes on with the sequel to his underrated debut and most likely his darkest effort yet H.N.I.C. Part 2 (Voxonic).

The album opens up strongly with “Real Power Is People.” The conspiracy theory themed newscast followed by a slew governmental grievances cajole you into believing that the album is going to focus on the heightened state of enlightenment P has accumulated
since his prison inducing arrest. Instead he keeps it mild as he denounces the almighty dollar and explains the true meaning of power over solar system synths and heaving drums.

“Illumanati” leads the listener to believe that the track might pick up where "Power Is People" left off. No. But regardless of the theme, V.I.P. stomps all over the track with brollic wordplay and some mature reflection (“I was fast sleep but now I’m wide awake / I was under the spell of reserve notes / religion and fashion / I used to be flashy”).

The album’s gloomy aura is at its apex with the first single “ABC.” Produced by Sid Roams, the track sounds like peyote fueled hike through a Hip-Hop haunted house. A mash up of possessed organs and creepy guitar licks, P assures all adversaries he is still not one to be played with. Other noteworthy selections include “Veteran’s Memorial 2” where he opens up on the lives of his fallen crew and the evil guitar driven “New Yitty.”

Past the eighth or ninth track the disc looses its’ steam. Prodigy’s elementary lyrics coupled with his it doesn’t rhyme but I’ll make it rhyme flow (“Let me prepare you, for that rectangle box / you deserve to die you dirty little f***”), make joints like “Field Marshall P” and “3 Stacks” forgettable. Additionally, the Havoc collaboration “I Want Out” doesn’t hit as hard as long time fans of the Infamous duo would expect.

It’s clear with H.N.I.C. Part 2, we get Prodigy on his own terms. There are no promising attempts at radio or club hits, and definitely no cream puffs asking for forgiveness from their monogamy challenged girlfriends. On the flipside, the album lacks a true consistency to land on a 2008 top ten list. Bottom line Prodigy could have dunn more on this occasion.

Dr. Phil" Posts Bail For Teen Accused In Beating

The teen accused of masterminding a videotaped “animalistic” attack against a fellow teenage classmate is out on bond, and she has celebrity talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw to thank for it, according to a bail bondsman.

The bondsman told media gathered at a Polk County jail Friday that Dr. Phil posted Mercedes Nichols’$30,000 bond. Ironically, Dr. Phil had an upcoming show about teen violence slated.

Dr. Phil has some huge balls, doesn’t he?

When Nichols was released from jail, a man arrived and identified himself as a Dr. Phil producer and ordered local media to leave the area because the Dr. Phil Show had exclusive rights to the story, according to reporters on scene.

The man refused to comment about why Dr. Phil would help someone accused of such a violent crime leave jail, and he would not confirm if Dr. Phil paid for her bond.

A spokesperson for the Dr. Phil show issued the following statement:

“We have helped guests and potential guests in the past when they need financial assistance to come on the show - assisting with clothing allowance, lost wages, accommodations, travel and necessities. In this case, certain staff members went beyond our guidelines (re: the bail being paid). These staff members have been spoken to and our policies reiterated. In addition, we have decided not to go forward with the story as our guidelines have been compromised.”

Needless to say, Dr. Phil’s show about teen violence has had the plug pulled on it. When is this bozo going to get a clue?

DETROIT RAPPER REMEMBERED ON ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH

Fans and loved ones gathered in Detroit this afternoon (April 11) to remember slain D12 member Proof and commemorate the two-year anniversary of his death.
"Since he's been gone he was the head of everything, so I'm trying to straighten things up and it’s hard. No one can fill those shoes," D12 member Mr. Porter told AllHipHop.com.
A candlelight vigil will be held from 4-6pm EST at Woodlawn Cemetery, where the artist was put to rest six days after his death in front of a crowd of 2,000 people, including best friend Eminem who eulogized Proof.
Proof, born Deshaun Holton, was shot at the age of 32, following an altercation outside of the CCC Club on East Eight Mile Road.
According to police and eyewitness reports, a fight broke out between Proof and 35-year-old Keith Bender inside the nightclub, which was operating after hours illegally.
The fight continued outside, where Bender was allegedly shot first by Proof, who then suffered a gunshot wound to the head at the hands of bouncer Mario Etheridge.
The shooter also happened to be Bender's cousin.
Bender died on April 18th, 2006 of gunshot wounds sustained in the incident.
Proof, who actually founded D12 in 1990, was heralded as one of the most important figures on Detroit's Hip-Hop scene.
Known for hosting several rap battles around the city, most notably at the legendary Hip-Hop Shop where all six members of D12 first met, Proof was the inspiration for Mekhi Phifer's 8 Mile character Future.
"He taught me how to be a leader," Eminem said during Proof's funeral two years ago. "I'm sure everybody who has ever met him, even just once, can testify to the fact that he illuminated a room when he walked in it. I believe that Proof loved people and people loved him. He was a magnet. He lured you in. You wanted to learn about him, follow his swagger. Without Proof, there would be no Eminem, no Slim Shady, no D12. You're the man."
"Proof is the one," added Shady Records labelmate Obie Trice, who had coincidentally also been the victim of a shooting in Detroit only 3 months before Proof's death. "He is the pioneer of Detroit music."
The candlelight vigil at Woodlawn will be followed by a gathering at the GoodLife Lounge in Detroit.
Later tonight, Detroit's Hip Hop 4 Habitat Detroit will host the Hip-Hop & Habit Game and concert in honor of Proof, featuring Almost September with MC Lyte, Big Herk, Ray Ray and others.
Proof is survived by a wife and five children.

EMINEM WILL PERFORM @ NELSON MANDELA'S 90TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

Rapper Eminem will give a rare performance in June, when he performs at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party.
According to reports, organizers contacted Eminem last month and he agreed to perform for the former South African president and former head of the African National Congress (ANC).
While Eminem's name had surfaced in earlier reports about the celebration, it was not clear if he would take part in the event.
Fellow rapper Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are hosting the star-studded celebration, which takes place June 27 in London’s Hyde Park.
Eminem will join a growing roster of stars that will pay tribute to Mandela, who was imprisoned from 1964 until 1990 for opposing apartheid.
The concert, which is expected to draw over 45,000 people, will help raise money for Mandela’s 46664 AID’s charity.
Other performers confirmed for the event include Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, Razorlight, Keane and others.
According to reports, The Spice Girls, Sir Paul McCartney and U2 may also join the bill but these artists are not confirmed.

Rapper Vanilla Ice was arrested Thursday night for domestic battery, according to Palm Beach County, Fla., sheriffs.

The musician, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, is currently in police custody and is due in court Friday, according to Lt. Tim Temperato.

Van Winkle, 40, was booked at 10:42 p.m., the sheriff's Web site shows.

On Friday, a judge "will determine if there was probable cause for the arrest," Temperato said.

No further details of the arrest were available.

If the judge decides the arrest was justified, Van Winkle will either be given a bond, or be released on his own recognizance.

The mother of a teenaged boy assaulted by associates of Tony Yayo filed a civil lawsuit in New York State Supreme Court today (April 9).

The lawsuit, filed by attorney Richard Reich, accuses G-Unit member Tony Yayo, Lowell Fletcher and others of assaulting the teen, who is the son of Jimmy Henchmen, the CEO of Czar Entertainment.

Czar manages a number of artists, including former G-Unit member The Game.

The two parties have a well documented history of violent disputes.

According to the lawsuit, the teen was backhanded on March 20, 2007, as he walked to Czar's offices, "simply because he was wearing a shirt displaying the name of a business rival. Tony Yayo, born Marvin Bernard, admitted in Criminal Court that he harassed the teen and "glared at him in a manner meant to threaten him." Fletcher admitted in Criminal Court that he smacked the teen, while acting in concert with another.

"My son James was 14 years old when he was attacked by Tony Yayo, Lowell Fletcher and other adult men," the teen's mother Cynthia Reed told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "Because of the injuries suffered by James, and the lack of remorse and arrogance displayed by Yayo, G-Unit and all named in the lawsuit, I feel obligated as a mother to bring this suit and obtain justice for my child. Even though Yayo plead guilty in Criminal Court to harassing my son and Fletcher plead guilty to endangering my son, neither Yayo nor G-Unit members have ever apologized to my son or me."

While the men have yet to apologize, Yayo was sentenced to 150 hours of probation in February for his role in the assault, while Fletcher was sentenced to nine months in prison.

"We are seeking compensatory damages for the injuries suffered by James,as well as punitive damages for the attack upon a child by adult men," Richard Reich added.

Also named in the lawsuit is 50 Cent, G-Unit Records, Interscope Records, Shady Records, Universal Music Group, Violator Records, Violator Management and Chris Lighty.

According to Variety…50 Cent is signing up for yet another movie. This one, called Spectacular Regret stars unknowns such as Danny Huston (Marie Antoinette), John Ortiz (American Gangster) and Kelli Garner (Thumbsucker).

“[50 Cent] will play a death row inmate whose imminent execution has made him a cause celebre. The drama interconnects with four Angelenos struggling to overcome past events.

Leonard is an actor who has co-directed the docu “Beautiful Losers” and helmed short “The Youth in Us.” He also lugged around a camera as one of the stars of “The Blair Witch Project.”“

The movie itself sounds, ehhhh….but what’s interesting to me is that this seems like 50’s first foray into that murky realm of indie films. Maybe he’ll start stretching outside of his comfort zone of monosyllabic tough-guy roles?

Judge Rules 50's Ex Must Leave Mansion

Rapper 50 Cent has won the latest round in a series of court battles with ex-girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins, the mother of his 10-year-old son.

A Long Island housing court judge ruled yesterday that Tompkins must vacate the $2.4 million Dix Hills, New York home, where she has reportedly been living with 50's son as well as her daughter from another relationship and her boyfriend.

During a hearing yesterday (April 3) at the Suffolk County Third District court, a judge recognized 50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, as the rightful owner of the 5,000-square foot house.

The judge ordered that Tompkins must find a new living arrangement by the end of the 2007-2008 school year.

She must also pay Jackson a total of $9,000.

In a February court appearance, a judge reduced the amount of child support 50 was responsible for from $25,000 to $6,700 per month, which was to provide Tompkins the funds needed to find a new home.

The G-Unit boss and his attorney maintain she's made no attempts to do so.

"To have her living there with her boyfriend and several other people is inappropriate," the artist said following the two hour hearing. "She's in the house with people I'm not responsible to pay housing for."

The hearing came after Tompkins filed a lawsuit in Manhattan on Wednesday (April 2), accusing 50 of "breach of contract," alleging that he promised to provide housing for her and her children.

JAY-Z SIGNS 150 MILLION DOLLAR DEAL

Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter is expected to sign a 10-year-deal, $150 million dollar “360” deal with Live Nation, that will include Roc Nation, a new entertainment venture for the rapper, The New York Times reports.

If the deal goes through, Jay-Z, 38, will add more than $60 million dollars in cash to his bottom line.

The rapper, who owes one more album to Def Jam, is currently on his biggest tour outing in three years, headlining the “Heart of the City” tour with Mary J. Blige, which was produced by livenation.com.

Live Nation envisions handling all aspects of Jay-Z’s entertainment, recording, tours and endorsement deals.

Under the terms of the deal, Jay-Z will receive an upfront payment of $25 million dollars, a general advance of $25 million dollars and an advance payment of $10 million dollars per album, for at least three albums.

Jay-Z will also receive a series of payments totaling about $20 million dollars for publishing, licensing and the rights to other endeavors produced by Roc Nation, as well as another $25 million dollars to target investments or acquisitions.

Finally, Live Nation will provide $5 million dollars a year to Roc Nation to support the new company’s overhead for the next five years.

Last Monday (March 31), Live Nation announced that they had signed rock legends U2 to a 12-year global contract to expand and run the band's global music enterprises including touring, merchandising, and the band's website, U2.com.

In October of 2007, the company announced a similar deal with Madonna.

Live Nation was created in 2005, when corporate giant Clear Channel Communications was split into three separate companies: Clear Channel Communications (radio), Clear Channel Outdoor (billboard advertising; outdoor display ads) and finally, Live Nation.

Snoop Dogg Converts to Mormonism

DIAMOND BAR, California (AP) — In what some may consider an unexpected move, rap artist “Snoop Dogg” has reportedly converted to Mormonism after nearly a year of study with the fast-growing, Utah-based faith.

Snoop Dogg says he “can’t get enough of the Book of Mormon.”

In a statement, a spokeswoman for Snoop Dogg — whose real name is Calvin Broadus — said he considers himself extremely fortunate to have discovered such a deep sense of spiritual fulfillment at this stage in his life.

“Mr. Broadus is also very pleased to find that his family is as enthusiastic about attending church services as he is,” the spokeswoman said.

However, Snoop Dogg has not been enthusiastic about publicly sharing his experience and declined to be interviewed by CNN for this article. In fact, he reportedly informed producers of his E! reality show “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood” that this particular aspect of his family’s life was off-limits to the cameras. Still, he left open the possibility of addressing the subject in future episodes.

According to the Associated Press, Snoop Dogg was first introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as the Mormon Church is officially known, after attending a Gladys Knight concert in an LDS meeting house in Los Angeles.

Knight, who very publicly discusses her conversion to Mormonism several years ago, invited Snoop Dogg to what is known to the Mormon faithful as “Family Home Evening,” a church program that encourages families to set aside Monday evenings for gospel-centered lessons and family togetherness.

Though Snoop Dogg has been hesitant to publicly discuss his recent spiritual journey, he commented on the experience of attending his first “Family Home Evening” in a recent interview with People Magazine.

“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”

In what Snoop Dogg now thinks was anything but a coincidence, Mormon missionaries had knocked on his door just one week before the Knight concert. He said he had initially turned them away because of what he knew about the strict Mormon health code, which prohibits members from smoking, drinking alcohol, and using drugs.

“Y’all know me,” he said grinning broadly. “There were just certain things the old me — the “natural man” — needed to do. And these young guys are telling me that God’s not down with disrespecting ourselves. But it’s cool now.”

Snoop Dogg said his conversion marks the end of his old life, one that included frequent run-ins with the law. Snoop Dogg was convicted in 1990 of cocaine possession and charged with gun possession after a 1993 traffic stop. In 1997, he pleaded guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence.

In 1996, Snoop Dogg was acquitted of murder after a purported gangbanger was killed by gunfire from the vehicle in which Snoop Dogg was traveling.

Snoop Dogg dismisses critics who claim his conversion is intended to placate a Salt Lake County judge, before whom he is appealing an alleged probation violation.

“Listen, the haters will say what they will,” Snoop Dogg said. “I can only do what I feel is right.”

It took rapper T.I. less than 24 hours to fall into compliance with the terms of his plea agreement, AllHipHop.com has learned.

According to attorney Dwight Thomas, who was part of T.I.‘s defense team, the rapper started fulfilling his court mandated 1500 hours of community service on Friday (March 28), just one day after his much publicized court appearance in Atlanta.
While Thomas could not offer details on the amount or type of community service the artist performed, he was able to shed some light on how his surprising plea deal came about.
"We've been doing some good faith negotiations for some time," Thomas told AllHipHop.com. "This didn't happen over a couple of days. We've been involved in some lengthy discussions, both the attorneys for the state and the defense attorneys. This was a reasonable outcome and it was in his best interest. He's expressed remorse for what he's done and accepted responsibility.
"He's committed, he's sincere, he has a passion about helping others," Thomas said of T.I. "That was one of the factors even at his bond hearing: the fact that he's such a charitable person. So I think it's gonna work out for him."
As part of his plea agreement, T.I. is to complete 1000 of the assigned community service hours, prior to his sentencing date on March 27, 2009.
During that time, the rapper, born Clifford Harris, will experience much more freedom than he has since his October 2007 arrest.
"While he is awaiting sentencing, he is under modified restrictions outside of work and religion," explained Thomas. "He's still able to perform, he's able to go to church, he's able to pursue any type of work related to his industry."
Under these modified restrictions, T.I. must obey a curfew that requires him to be at home between the hours of 11pm and 6am, unless he is working, in which case the hours are adjusted to 1am to 8am.
Once T.I. appears in court next year, he is expected to be sentenced to 365 days in federal prison, as per the terms of the plea deal.
The hours logged under curfew will be counted as time served towards the rapper's sentence.
And, Thomas explained, other factors may affect the actual sentence handed down.
"Anytime you're released, do negative things, break the law again, of course there's the possibility that you'll do more time," he says. "But then again, if you do exemplarily well, and go beyond the things you're supposed to do, you might do less time than expected."
